Do you ever remember reading a book and feeling all warm and cosy inside? A book that feels like home?
This is the feeling I got as a child when I read Alice in Wonderland.
I don’t remember the age I was when I first read it, but we were reading it as a class back when I was in primary school, so I must have been quite small. Now, I will admit, I found the story quite confusing when I was small but the older, I became, the more I understood the story and grew fond of the message it gave out. I loved it so much, that even though we had our school copies, my mum bought me my own set, which included Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and the sequel Alice Through the Looking Glass. I was so happy; now I was able to read over it whenever I liked.
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll is my favourite childhood book. It tells the story of a young girl called Alice, who falls down a rabbit hole and becomes surrounded and bewildered by the strange creatures she encounters.
I think I love this book so much because of its ability to provide such clarity from characters but also show the bizarre imagination that all children undoubtedly possess.
When Alice falls down the rabbit hole, she learns so much from the many creatures surrounding her and that’s how I felt going into adolescence; feeling like I was falling deeply with no idea how much the impact of the fall would affect me. While along the way, I would meet many creatures, some who would confuse me and others who would help shape my life.
It’s a story, a children’s story, but it is one that I cherish. And even now as a 19-year-old, I enjoy cuddling up with the book, the very same one from my childhood, and a lovely cup of tea.
There is always a story that will stay with each of us in our lives and for me that story is this one, it’s one I read as a child and one I will read to my future children, and their children and so on. It’s comfort. It’s home.
Always stay true to yourself and own what you love and believe in.
Thank you for reading, Priecce x
About me and my blog
My name is Capriecce. I am 19 years old and I live in a village in Scotland with my mum, stepdad and dog. I love writing, but my long-term goal is to become a qualified pediatrician.
My blog is a Mental Health, Lifestyle and Book Blog which I created back at the start of April this year. I wrote for a little while but my love for writing gradually left me when my mood got increasingly low and I decided to take a step away from blogging to focus on building myself back up again.
In September, I returned to blogging and have been happily writing ever since. I love to connect with, and help, others who have been through similar experiences to my own.
